NEMASTRIKE™ and Parasitic Nematodes

Parasitic nematodes are very small roundworms that infect the roots of crops and can cause potential yield loss in corn, soybeans and cotton. This loss is estimated to be over 10% across these valuable agronomic crops, according to a nationwide loss estimate by the University of California. Approximately 80% of the Corn Belt in the United States is infested with nematodes. The most well-known of these microscopic roundworms is the Soybean Cyst Nematode (SCN). Often producers associate nematodes with sandy soils. This is not necessarily the case. Many nematodes (there are over 50 species identified as corn nematodes) thrive in all soil types.

Much of the damage caused by nematodes is frequently diagnosed as stress – drought, herbicide and/or disease stress. Yellowing of the leaves, wilting of the plants stunted growth, are all symptoms exhibited by these stresses. The same symptoms can often occur when high populations of nematodes are found. Nematodes rob the plant of vital nutrients and water. By feeding in the roots, nematodes also open the plant to infections by bacteria and fungi, along with having the ability to transmit viruses. The effects of nematode feeding results in poor performance and can lead to potential yield loss.

NemaStrike™ technology aids in reducing the plant stress caused by nematodes and reduces the yield loss associated with nematode feeding. This new nematicide chemistry affects only plant parasitic nematodes and provides control of Lesion, Sting, Needle, Stubby Root, Lance, Reniform, Root Knot, Soybean Cyst nematodes, and many others.
