Grasshoppers
are sometimes found in young soybeans near field borders after migrating from
nearby weed hosts. Spot treatment may be advisable when significant feeding
occurs. Aerial insecticide applications are more effective than ground
applications. If grasshoppers are causing over 40% defoliation in pre-blooming
soybeans or 20% defoliation in soybeans that are blooming or past blooming, an
insecticide treatment may be warranted.
